Legal Question in Personal Injury in Pennsylvania

My wife was the cause of a rear end collision with another vehicle. She was stopped at a stop light and gradually drifted into the bumper of the vehicle in front of her. No damage to either vehicle. Police were called to the scene by the operator of the struck vehicle but because there was no damages or injuries, they dismissed the incident and left without writing a police report. Now, after nearly two years, we are being sued for personal injury as a result of this auto accident. My auto insurance company says it's a frivolous suit. My auto insurance has offered a reasonable settlement amount but the settlement was refused. My insurance company is forcing the plaintiff to take us to court. I have $250K liability per person and $500K liability per accident. I also have a $1M personal umbrella policy with the same insurance company. I also have a condo insurance policy with the same company. My insurance company is suggesting we have the right to seek independent counsel. QUESTION: Doesn't a typical personal umbrella policy guarantee that I will not go to court alone, that my insurer will represent us and that our legal fees and court costs are covered?

I think you can relax. As long as all of your insurance companies are "on board", they'll handle everything for you. IMHO, based on the facts presented here, you do not need private counsel.
