Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Pennsylvania
4 year relationship ended, not married, what should I expect to recieve?
I was in a 4 year relationship, never married but engaged. We built our own house. My name is on the mortgage but not on the deed to the property. Both of us worked and put money into the property. I have given him a list of all the personal items I expected back, and have not even recieved all of those. I left with only my personal belongings, which I haven't recieved all of those. He kept all the contents (furniture and appliances) and the house. We built the house from scratch and my parents put their house as colateral for us to borrow the money. I wrote a letter demanding that it be refinanced by a certain date to remove both my parents and my name off the deed to the house. Also added that I would like to agree on an amount that he would be willing to give me for the money that I invested in this property. I want to make sure that I have the right to expect to be reimbursed. I told him that if I did not recieve any statement from him saying an appraisal is in progress and he is not willing to compromise on a dollar amount due to me, that I would hire a lawyer, but I really don't want it to have to come to that. Am I in the right and what sort of reimbursement should I expect?

Your issues are quite complex. I strongly recommend you hire an attorney. I do believe you can establish a claim in the equity in the real estate. However, the facts must be reviewed very carefully by an attorney. If you try to avoid hiring an attorney you might not know how to protect yourself and your parents.
