Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Pennsylvania

Apartment Responsibility

My daughter and I signed a 2 semester lease for an apartment for college. Her roomate signed a separate lease for the same apartment. The roomate moved out. Who is responsible for her half of the rent? My daughter's rent is paid for the full first semester. Isn't it the responsibility of the landlord to collect from the roomate regardless of whether she lives there or not?

Re: Apartment Responsibility

It is difficult to answer this question without reviewing the leases. The way it was described in your question there appears to be two leases. If there are two leases with each lease being responsible for one half the rent, the landlord should be required to pursue the other tenant. However, be careful and have the leases reviewed by an attorney before any reliance of this advice. It is impossible to answer the question in a qualified manner without a review of the leases.
