Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Pennsylvania
Billing dispute
The waste management company that is contracted by our township (Susquehanna Township, Dauphin County) has never sent an invoice to our address, and we've been at this address almost 10 years. Now, they've finally caught the billing error and have sent an invoice in the amount of $335.16. I always assumed that trash collection was part of our real estate taxes and never questioned it. I feel that this error is not my fault nor is it my responsibility to correct it and I'd like to know what our rights are in this matter.
Thank you.

Re: Billing dispute
The waste management company could argue you knew it wasn't on your taxes as a big truck with their name on it showed up every week. A weak argument but this is a DJ level dispute.
This probably can be settled by asking the waste management company to allow you to pay the prior balance in installments. After all they did take your trash away all that time without you paying them. So they are entitled to be paid.
