broken arm and signatures
i ahve a broken arm in a cast and I need to sign quit claim deed papers in front of a notary. What happens in a case like this if I can not sign?

You asked about notarizing a document.
Notaries are an anachronism. The main purpose of a notary is to verify the identity of the person signing a document. All a person needs to do to sign a notarized document is establish their identity and make a mark. The notary's jurat is "proof" that a signature or mark is the signature or mark of the person purported.
FYI, if a notary certifies a signature that is fraudulent, the signature can still be challenged.
