Civil law suit

How does civil law suits affect a property? Can someone who has filed a civil lawsuit against you force you to sell you home through Sheriff Sale? Someone told me that this could happen. I thought only the mortgage company and the IRS had the authority to do this. Also, how long does a civil suit stay on a credit profile? I also thought that a civil law suit would lien a property...is this correct? and for how long?

If a civil suit results in a judgment against all owners of real estate, that judgment is a lien against the real estate. I suggest you consult with legal counsel as there are many very fine legal principals that can be used to prevent a sale. Any sale would be subject to prior mortgages. Defend any law suit.
