Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Pennsylvania

trying to get clear title to property .A searc revealed a mtg at the courthouse was never released back in 1983. tried to locate company i do not think they are in bus anymore. Is there any thing that can be done to get this mtg satisfied.

Yes but it takes a little work. First you need to get a copy of the mortgage or at least find out who held the mortgage. The next thing to do is to find out all the successors of that company. You might ask some one at your bank whose been around a while. I once had a mortgage that I need to get cleared up and there had been 4 banks who over time owned the mortgage. If no one can help you there you can try the state banking commission.

It's quite possible the mortgage is satisfied. So the bank owning the mortgage will have to give a notice of satisfaction which you file with the recorder of deeds.
