Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Pennsylvania

Getting Another Name on a Deed Without Refinancing

My girlfriend and I would like to get my name on her house(deed) without refinancing. The bank at first told us no, but a close friend at the bank told us to see our lawyer and he could do it. Before I go and spend $50.00 for a consultation to see if I can do this, I was wondering if you would know. The secretary at my lawyers firm told me they would add my name but copy the deed word for word. The problem is we don't have the deed, the bank does, so how does all this work? Thank you for your help.

The bank does not know what they are talking about. You can put anyone you want (within reason) on your deed. If you need a copy of the deed tell the bank you want a copy or go to the courthouse in your county--they have copies, in fact that is where all deeds are kept. The office in the courthouse you need to get a copy from is called the Recorder of Deeds office. Attorneys usually charge around $100-$125 to prepare a deed.
