Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Pennsylvania

eminent domain

How can I find out if my ex husband sued and received more money, after we divorced, on property that was joint property and taken by eminent domain. He will not answer my question and I don't know where to start looking for the answer without spending a lot of money.

Re: eminent domain

Well its going to take some effort on your part but not a lot of money.

First, go to the county court house where the property is located.

First stop will be the prothonotary. There you will need to have them see if there was a case involving your husband and whoever took the property. If there is there will be a docket number assigned. The file associated with the docket number is public record. So you then ask to see the file. You won't be allowed to take it any where but you look at it and assuming there was a case what the outcome was.

Tips: Try to go when they aren't busy. Generally just when court opens, lunchtime or at the end of the day. Also, you can check the court calendar an avoid going done during the week they're holding criminal trials. The courthouse tends to get crowded then. Lastly be polite and patient the staff will be very helpful if you are.
