need to know the exact meaning of squatters rights

I live in the country and I have a new neighbor. Well he seems to dispute a survey I have. But can he really make a big deal over a couple feet? The area he is disputing has never been disputed because 1. it is a field and 2. the previous onwer of 50 years never cared anyways.

Yes, he can dispute even a couple of inches.. If you have openly used the area for over 21 years, you could a a claim of ownershipo based upon adverse possession. This is very technical and would require a lawyer's analysis
