Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Pennsylvania

Foreclosure/Government Seizing

Odd scenario: A friend of ours has power of attorney for a his friend ''Tom'' who is ...in jail (and will be for a long time apparently--drug dealing I believe). Tom owned a property that will soon be foreclosed upon due to lack of payment (there is talk about a sheriff's sale but so far no legal action/paperwork). We would like to purchase the property before this happens. Then there is the added question of whther or not the government would want to seize the property and we do not who to ask to find this out

Thanks for your time.

Re: Foreclosure/Government Seizing

I suggest you obtain an attorney. I would contact the man with the power of attorney to tell him you desire to purchase the property. A price needs to be establish, a title search needs to be obtained and a written agreement needs to be prepared. I would be concerned with the title search first because the liens against the property may exceed the fair market value.
