Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Pennsylvania

Legal Advice PLEASE!!

I signed a lease with someone last April for a one bedroom apartment, and unfortunately I am now unable to afford the apartment or tuition for school. Is there anyway to get out of this lease? Can they sue me, even though I have No Money? I have been advertising this apartment and no one has made an offer! I don't have the money...what should I do?

Re: Legal Advice PLEASE!!

A lawyer would have to review your lease to see exactly what it provides for early termination.

Under most standard lease forms, your only right to terminate is usually by giving notice x number of days before the end of the lease. If you have a one year lease, if would expire/terminate in March 2008.

To terminate the lease early, try to negotiate with the landlord to release you [in writing] before the end of the term. It may cost you your security deposit plus some additional money. The benefit of this is that your credit won't be ruined by a report that you walked away from your obligation without keeping up your end.

If this goes on your credit, it will affect your ability to get another apartment, get a job, get other financing, car, insurance, etc.
