Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Pennsylvania

We Have lived with my father for 4 years since we lost our home in florida due to my chronic illness My wife myself and our 7 year old son . I am on the deed along with my Brother and my father is listed as life tenant those were the term of the divorce agreement . We are living there with no lease or contract . When we decided to move into this house in pennsylvania we verbally agreed that since we could not afford any payment we would just cook clean wash for my dad in return to live there, since then we have only taken over the trash bill thats under both my name and my wifes . Today 4/1 however we were served with a court date of 4/9 to appear for eviction Im assuming it said we were in default of the lease agreement not paying rent or utilities. is there anything we can do are we doomed, Im terrified for my family where else to go, I have put over 25,000 in the house since the house was deeded to me I thought it was a great investmeny but now Im not sure we have no funds to relocate at the moment and no funds for an attorney. Please I beg of you to try to give us any info we can possible ask the judge if any

thanks

Rick

Well not a good turn of events. However, I will assume you are at the DJ. First question did you sign a lease? If you didn't it will be hard for them to evict you.

That said when somebody is ready to toss you out you should have contacted a lawyer. If you could $25,000 into a house that isn't yours apparently you should have just paid rent instead.

Even if you can't afford a lawyer you could have contacted your local bar association and they could of put you in touch with legal services. Which even if you do that first thing tomorrow and are lucky enough to find one available you've cut his prep time to less than a day.
