Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Pennsylvania

Locked out of home by roomate

Is it legal for someone you rent a home with to change the locks on the home and refuse you entry and refuse to allow you to retrieve your belongings? Am i bound to the lease and required to continue to pay half of the rent when the landlady has refused to help me gain entry.

Re: Locked out of home by roomate

There has to be some information missing. If you are on the lease you have as much right to the property as the other tenant. If the locks were changed, how would the landlord get in, because she would need a key as well. The tenant could not do this without her permission. She is under and obligation to assist you if you are on the lease, however if there was a valid reason for the tenant to change the lock due to abuse or other illegal actions than you may not have a right to re-enter. Again I would need all of the facts.
