Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Pennsylvania

How long can a property damage be held accountable

My roommate had an issue where he was a bystander of a crime in which property damage occured. The owners of the property are blaming my roomate. My question is how long can a person wait before charging another for those damages. Both in criminal court and civil court. Thank you for your time.

There are specific statutes of limitations applicable to criminal and civil matters. And depending on the facts of a matter, and jurisdiction , can vary from days to months to years. I can't tell you more without specific information and probably a few minutes of research. Take a look at the online legal materials and look for statutes of limitations and pennsylvania to get a basic idea.

Fact is there isn't anything anyone can do to prevent being charged or sued for anything. (Sort of assures that I'll always be employed). But in order to get anywhere the person making the charges needs to be able to beat the standard of proof applicable to the subject matter. Standards vary from more likely than not to beyond reasonable doubt to a simple preponderance of evidence.
