Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Pennsylvania

Mistake in closing costs 2 mos later

2 mos ago I signed all of the paperwork for the sale of my house. Today I received a letter from the title company that handled the closing indicating that they made a mistake in their math on my closing sheet and that I received $425 that should have gone to my realtor. They are requesting that I send them the $$. I think they should be responsible to pay the realtor the $$ since they made the mistake with the math - and they waited 2 mos before contacting me. Do I have any legal rights to not pay the $$? I would like to write back to them saying they need to pay for their mistake - not me. Please advise. Thanks so much!!

Re: Mistake in closing costs 2 mos later

You asked a question about an overpayment in your favor at closing.

Any attorney would need to see the documents to see whether the alleged overpayment is actually owed or not.

While I can't suggest one way or the other whether the money is legally owed. My suggestion would be that you write the title company a simple two word response.

Roger
