Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Pennsylvania

Parent co-signer

I am a 23 year old gradute student. I do not talk to my parents for i have been on my own since the age of 18. My new land lord demanded many times a parent co-signed for knowing that i do not have contact. Many times both called and came to the house to tell me i will be evicted if i dont get someone to sign it. i was wondering what can be done. Or if the co-signer document can be waived due to the timly fashion i paid the security deposit and this months rent. I am sick of getting phone calls from them telling me they will evict the entire house because i have no one to sign.

Re: Parent co-signer

It's not clear who is trying to evict you. Nor who the "them" are who are calling you.

If you already have a written lease, your landlord may not make additional demands or add terms to your lease. If you violate the lease, you may be evicted and the landlord may also seek a judgment against you for the rent for the entire term of the lease.

Do you have your own credit? is it good? If not, that may be why the landlord is asking for a co-signor.

You may want to consult a lawyer to determine what your rights are and what issues you are dealing with.

This response is not legal advice, since I do not have all of the information that would be required, and I do not have a representation agreement with you.

* If the answers to your question confirm that you have a valid issue or worthwhile claim, your next step should almost always be to establish a dialog with a lawyer who can provide specific advice to you. Contact a lawyer in your county or township.

* Another reason for contacting a lawyer is that it is often impossible to give a good answer in the Internet Q&A format without having more information. The unique circumstances of your situation and things that you may not have thought to mention in your question may completely change the answer. If you want to be sure that you have a complete answer to your question and an understanding of what that answer means, establish a connection with a lawyer who practices in the area of your concern.
