Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Pennsylvania
Do I have to pay inheritance tax twice? My parents sign the house over to us 4 kids in 2001. My mom passed on Feb. This year.
My sister died in 2013 so I'm told I have to pay inheritance tax on her quarter. I'm buying my two bothers and today they called and said since my parents had life time occupancy I would also have to pay inheritance tax on the whole house again. It was is kids since 2001.

When the house was signed over in 2001 you would have been paying gift tax. As your parents were alive. Now what taxes were due when your sister died will determine the inheritance tax. It should be 1/4 of the house divided by 3. Time to see a tax lawyer.
