renters rights

our landlors has sold our property. we have a signed 1 year lease which is in effect until october 1, 2000. we have had some finacial problems but have worked them out with the landlord. now they tell us that we have 30 days to vacate. i have 2 children. can they legally force me out in 30 days?

Assuming that you are current in your lease payments the new owner must honor the lease obligation. If you are in default of the lease obligations he must evict you which should take longer than thirty days. I suggest that you attempt to negotiate with the new landlord if you are in default of the lease as to when you leave. If you are current you can not be evicted until the end of your lease term. Consult an attorney. If you can not afford an attorney go to Legal Aid in your county for free legal advice on this issue.
