Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Pennsylvania
Rights accruing from paying property taxes
Suppose that I sell some land to a second party but that I continue to pay the real estate taxes on the land. Does the ownership of this land revert to me if I pay these taxes for a certain number of years? If so, how long must I pay the taxes to regain ownership of the land?

First off, did you own the previous property? If so when you sold the real estate was there a deed conveyance? And most importantly, why are you paying real estate taxes for a property you allegedly sold to another party?
You should retain an attorney to discuss these matters ASAP, before any additional mistakes are made!

Re: Rights accruing from paying property taxes
Why would anybody pay you for land only to see it revert to you after some many years?
Assuming the buyer registered the deed then the buyer is the one who gets the tax bill.
Even if you paid the taxes on the land that would be considered a gift to the buyer so you would not gain any right to reversion.
Now if the buyer didn't pay his taxes and the property went up for a tax sale you could buy it back.
Sounds like you'd rather lease the land than sell it out right.

What you are referring to is adverse possession. The number of years is 21 in PA and just paying the taxes is probably not enough to get you there. What is really going on here? Why would you sell property to a third party and continue to pay the taxes? call me to discuss 610.647.5800
