Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Pennsylvania
"security deposits and breaking leases"
I signed a lease in December of 1991 for an apartment with a May 1993 expiration and subsequently signed extensions to that lease for one year renewals and rent increases. The lease has no clause for relocation and states that I am required to pay the rent until another tenant can be found if I relocate. I gave a one month security deposit 12/91 that has not been returned. I notified my landlord 8/99 of my intent to vacate 9/30/99 and he expects me to continue paying rent and has not returned my security deposit as of 11/2/99. What are my rights/responsibilities?

Re: stuck
you have a year to year lease anniversary date june. your landlord can and apparently will hold you to the lease. he does not have to return your sec dep if you are in default of rent. negociate with him. he is in violation of the landlord tenant act if he has not escrowed your rent and given you where it is as well as paying you interest every year after second year.
