sheriffs sale
my deceased fathers house was sold in a sheriffs sale in Phila. on 2/28/05 for $73,500, yet he only owed $33,000, what happends to the excess money from the sale of the house?

The excess money should go to his Estate. I suggest you contact the Sheriff's office. It may be better to hire an attorney at this point in time. Please keep in mind all costs of the sale, real estate taxes and other municipal liens are paid first from the proceeds. If there was a second mortgage any excess would go to them or other lien holders if any. My previous answer assumed there were no other lien holders. Gerald Hershenson Esq. 215-579-9390
