My stepfather has just died leaving no will behind. Can I claim his inheritance?

Thank you for your question,,

In order for a stepchild to inheritit from their deceased stepfather, the decedent must have done one of two things -

1..During the decedent's lifetime, he adopted his stepchild; or

2. Left a will in which he made a bequest to his stepchild.

If neither was done, then a stepchild does not have legal standing to inheit anything from the stepfather.
