I need to sue in small claims court. Do I file where I live or where the other party lives?

You may always file where the defendant (the person you are suing lives.) You may also be able to sue where the incident you are suing took place. ie if an accident occurred in one locality and you suffered damages you can sue there or where the defendant lives. If you are suing for breach of contract and the contract took place say at your home or the contract was entered into at your house you may be able to file where you live as well.
