Legal Question in Real Estate Law in Pennsylvania
Unfair estate attorney
I took care of my bedridden for years. I paid to have people come in to care for her when I worked. She died last March. According to the will I am to be allowed to stay in the home for 3 years after which it will be sold and the procedes divided between me and my two sisters. We are all executrixes of the estate. The attorney we hired talked me out of staying the 3 years and now wants me to pay the taxes and insurance for the house. He is trying to make sure I get as little as possible out of the estate. My sisters all live within ten minutes of my mother and did nothing to help me take care of her. Is there anything I can do? I would have to take money out of my pension plan to pay the taxes.

I suggest you seek the advice of independent legal counsel. You have rights. However, when your mother permitted you to stay in the property for three years, it is possible that you would have to be responsible for the insurance and taxes. The matter should be reviewed by someone who has your interest as a prime concern. Gerald Hershenson Esq.
