Unreturned security deposit/Landlord bankruptcy
I recently moved out of a college apartment. Our security deposit has yet to be returned. The property has been condemned, supposedly due to the landlord's overdue bills to the city. He has now declared bancruptcy. How do I go about getting back my security deposit? Is there any chance of seeing that money again?

If you gave your new address in writing when you moved out, landlord must return your security deposit in thirty days, or send a list of damages security deposit was used to pay for. If he does not you may sue him for double the amount. LTA 250.512. Also, a security deposit is not his money for bankruptcy purposes. He does not own the money. Apply to bankruptcy court to lift automatic stay, so you can sue him for money. If he spent your money, that is theft by unlawful disposition.
