Legal Question in Social Security Law in Pennsylvania
My mother received a check in 2006 for 24,000.00 from social security for money they owed her from 1990 to 2006. She was in a nursing home at the time. Did she have to put that money in a bank with them or could have she given that money to her kids?

You do not state what kind of social security it was, Disability, Widow's disability, SSI, etc. That can make a difference. But $24K for 16 years is not much.
Bottom line: She needed to comply the terms of the contract that she signed to enter the nursing facility.
