Legal Question in Social Security Law in Pennsylvania

Social Security Has Stopped Payment

My Father is retired 2 years now. He went to Socical Security and filed all papers with all information on his penision. They gave him a figure he would recieve.

Eighteen months later they send him a Letter saying he owes Social Security $5,000.00. Two months later They say he owes $7,500.00. They do not answer his certified letters and now have stopped his check all toghter.

What can he do, he needs this money to live.

Thank You

Re: Social Security Has Stopped Payment

The SSA likely stopped the payments until it recoups the $5000 - $7500 it says is owed. Without seeing the letters he has received from the SSA, I do not know the reasons the SSA claims he was overpaid. I suggest he schedule an appointment with the local SSA, ask to complete the "Waiver of Overpayment" forms, and retain counsel.
