Legal Question in Tax Law in Pennsylvania

never filed

I have not filed a tax return since 1995. I have never received a 1099 or a W-2 since then. I'm planning on working again and filing. However, my credit report shows that I have spent a considerable amount of money and travelled extensively. I have a misdemeanor drug dealing charge on my record. I have also been known to gamble and con people into paying my bills. How can I get back into the system without owing the IRS anything.

Re: never filed

You can't.

You have not filed for a number of years and yet you show expenditure of considerable resources.

Unless you can prove that everything you have spent and lived on for the last 10 years is gifts, then you are in a bad situation. The only way to get out of it is to file returns for those years showing a reasonable amount of income based on what records you have. You should do this through an experienced attorney who can negotiate with the IRS to avoid penalties and interest. Given the drug charge, you will also need to have the attorney make sure you avoid criminal prosecution for tax evasion.

As far as paying nothing to get clean with the system goes, your chances are very slight. I would seriously doubt the word of anyone who represents that they can get you out of any past tax liability.

Re: never filed

You need to speak with an attorney to discuss what documents you are required to file. If you male the first move then the IRS is a lot more understanding.
