Legal Question in Traffic Law in Pennsylvania

driving with a suspended liscense...

I had recently was under suspension of my DL and recieved a letter stating that I was eligable to drive by the state dated 3/16/06, all i had to do was pay the restoration. I was carrying an old pa dl for id purposes and was pulled over on 3/19/06 for a speeding violation. The officer took my old dl, gave me a citation for that, gave me a citation for driving under suspension and a speeding ticket 70 in a 55. He totaled the ticket wrong and the total amt due stated 6.50, which i mailed in and paid on 3/20/06. I had the restoration fee pd at a aaa on 3/20/06, which restored my driving priviliges. The officer stated that he would hold my old dl for 10 days to see if i was reinstated to drive. What should I do? I was under the assumption that I could drive after 3/16/06, honestly that is why i had the letter with me, and i showed it to the officer. He made me stay in a very unsecure area for 4hrs till a ride could come to take me home. Basically he left a young woman alone in a desolate area for 4 hrs at night. I felt very unsafe. Should i hire an atttorney or just request a trial? Would it help to talk to the officer beforehand?

Re: driving with a suspended liscense...

I'm not sure what effect it would have for you to have paid the ticket. It would seem that by pleading guilty to violation during the time you were under suspension would be proof of guilt of driving under suspension.

You need to undo that ticket, plead not guilty, and go to a hearing. You also need to go to a lawyer who can help you to get this straightened out.

You CANNOT drive until the restoration fee is paid and your license is returned to you.
