Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Pennsylvania
When acting as power of attorney for my mother may I be compensated for travel, meals and lodging? My mother lives in Pennsylvania and I live in North Carolina. I already made 2 round strips in the last two weeks.

What does the power of attorney say about this?
I don't understand why you have had to travel to be power of attorney, let alone why you have had to make 2 trips in as many weeks. If this is going to continue, perhaps your mother wishes to have an agent who is closer or perhaps she will consider relocating.
There are powers of attorney for finances and a different one for healthcare. The healthcare power should select as agent someone who resides close to your mother. Agents under a financial power can be somewhere else.
However, if the power of attorney provides for compensation or compensation for reasonable expenses, then ask your mother to reimburse you. But you will have to show these were for trips related to your duties as power of attorney and not just because of a visit.
Attorney Hunter's answer is spot on. Just to add to it, you should not simply "reimburse" yourself out of your mother's funds. If you incur costs for your Mother, then you should ask her to reimburse you, do not use "self-help". It could appear as though you are stealing, even if you are not. If she doesn't want to reimburse you, and you don't want to help your mother for free, then you should consider relinquishing the role of power of attorney.
