assets

my hisband recently died leavung a building worth about 1 million dollars to me.will i have to pay inheritance taxes on the worth of the building now or when i sell it?the building is in new jersey -i live in pennsylvania

generally in pennsylvania there would be no inheritance tax from spouse to spouse. I believe the same is true in New Jersey. However in addition depending on the size of the estate there would be no estate tax federal from husband to wife assuminf claim of marital deduction. New jersey may have some probate charges to transfer the real estate into your name. When you sell the building you will have to pay income taxes on the gain. Of course if the property is income producing you will recognize gain on income as it is earned.
