Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Pennsylvania

Attorney Costs

We are trying to take care of our mother's estate. An attorney friend told us he'd be able to take care of matters for 6% of the estate amount. Another attorney told me he'd do it for 5%. My family thinks this is too high and we should find an attorney who'd charge us an hourly rate. Is 5% reasonable? We're from south-west PA. What do you think about this hourly rate? Would we be able to find someone to do it cheaper who would handle it the way we want?

Re: Attorney Costs

It depends upon what you require as it relates to estate planning? However, most attorneys can set any reasonable fee, sometimes this amount may constitute a percentage of the estate if the person has passed or an hourly rate or even a flat rate.

The bottom line is it is up to the attorney and yourself of course, no one says you have to retain the first person you talk to!

My office also offers flat rate pricing and free consultations, for additional information please visit my firm's website at www.AlleghenyAttorneys.com or by calling my office at 412.731.0865.
