My brother died with no will

He has several hundred thousand dollars in various accounts and a car and house. I have two sisters and an elderly mother. What do I do to disperse the funds

Someome must raise an Estate by filing for Letters of dministration in the County in Pennsylvania where your brother lived. The person to file as an administrator can be you or your sisters or mother or anyone else that the family may choose. You should seek the advice of a counsel. If you need further information you may contact my office.

Re: My brother died with no will

Your brother's estate has to be administered, including paying all debts, income, inheritance and estate taxes due.

Administration, when there is no will, is started by filing an application for letters of administration with the Register of Wills in the County where the deceased resided. Then the administrator, or personal representative, has to follow steps required to give notices to the heirs and/or beneficiaries under the will, etc.

The personal representative probably wants a lawyer's assistance to make sure that all of the administration is correctly completed.

After the estate debts, including all taxes, have been paid, the personal representative may distribute the assets.
