Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Pennsylvania

how to see a copy of my dad's will

My step-mother has a copy of my dad's will which he passed away in april, and I was told she does not have to produce it even if his kids were in it. How can that be legal? And what would be the point of having one if your wishes were not met.

Re: how to see a copy of my dad's will

If your step-mother probates the will she will need to file his will with the Register of Wills and the beneficiaries of the will as well as his children must be notified that the will has been filed and a copy can be obtained from the Register of Wills.

If all of his assets had beneficiary designations or the assets were joint with rights of survivorship, she will not have to probate the will because the assets will pass directly to the beneficiaries named or to the joint owner.
