Every county is different. Call the register of wills for your county.

Being appointed is not a time consuming affair but it will depend on whether you are the sole heir. If there are other heirs and they do not agree to you being the administrator that could take more time as written objections would have to be filed and ruled upon.

Estate administration is another matter. Most estates are concluded in 1-2 years, depending on the complexity of the estate.

For probate fees, it will vary upon the size of the probate estate. But just the initial fee does not mean that you are done. There are fees for other things (like to get a short certificate or file accountings, etc.)

And I don't know what county the estate will be probated in. It would be best if you consulted with a probate attorney who practices in the county where the estate will be probated. You don't necessarily need to hire an attorney to probate an estate (although its a good idea) if the estate is relatively simple. However, you should at least get a consult to find out the general process. Failing that, then consult with the register of wills in the county where the estate will be probated;. Some courts have forms and fee schedules online but if they are not online then ask the court.
