Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Pennsylvania

Establish a will

I have a will I prepared myself and would like to establish it as my official will. I have no previous will, and my instructions are quite simple. I believe I can do this without an attorney. What is the procedure to establish a will in PA?

Thanks.

Re: Establish a will

Pennsylvania has some interesting laws on wills. First, is if you can sign your name you need know witnesses. Further in Pennsylvania everything above your signature is in the will any thing after your signature is not.

Now about what I said about the witnesses, you can probably go down to the Registrar of Wills and get an example on who to execute a self proving will. In this case you need witnesses and a notary to see that you and your witnesses sign the will.

Next what ever you do do NOT put the will in your safety deposit box. The contents maybe sealed in the event of your death. Next if your funeral arrangements are in the will that's the wrong place to put them. Your will might not be read till after the funeral. Lastly spring the couple of hundred dollars to have it reviewed. Your will need to be crystal clear after all you won't be around to explain it. Spend a few dollars now and save your beneficiaries a lot more money and trouble down the road.

If you have any questions feel free to contact me. The initial consultation is free.
