estate attorney's fees

a man left an estate [about 1,000.000] to three senior citizens. he owned and lived in a small city-row home , had no car. had no outstanding debts but current charges. everything was listed with his executor. it is nine months since he died and they have not given an accounting of

the estate, even with repeated urgings. the executor wants 44.000.and the attorney wants 77,000. is all this normal

The fees sound a bit high. Depending on the county an accounting may not be required. Estates can be settled with an agreement signed by all the beneficiaries. It sounds like this may be the case here. The agreement should include an accounting. It does not have to. Interested parties have the option of forcing the estate to audit; but this will take longer and the Judge may not see anything that bothers him or her. To answer your question it may not be "normal" but it is not all that unusual. You can get a copy of the Inheritance Tax Return (due nine months after the date of death) which in itself will be a kind of accounting.
