Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Pennsylvania

Ethics involved in doing a Will

Is it the usual procedure for an attorney doing a Will to ask how much a client has in financial assets and the names of the insitutions I invest in? I would also like to know the cost of a Will with just my daughter being the beneficiary? Its a very simple will. I had a will done in 1982 and all I really wanted was a codicil. Would that be feasible? Thank You.

Re: Ethics involved in doing a Will

A thorough lawyer would want to know the size of the estate and catagories of assets to properly draft the document and advise you of any estate tax consequences. Depending on what the 1982 will said a codicil may be sufficient to accomplish your objectives. The cost of a will varies, not only based on the number of beneficiaries but also on the size of the estate and a number of different factors. Some attorneys even prepare them for free in anticipation of receiving the fee to help the executor probate the will. I offer free consultations.
