Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Pennsylvania

I am the executrix of my mother's estate and was told that I have to advertise the grant of letters in 2 major newspapers. I am unsure how to word it and to which section of the newspaper to send it. Is is part of the Death Notices? I have never noticed them in the paper.

Contact local newspapers and ask for samples so that you can follow the same form and information.

This response is not legal advice, since I do not have all of the information that would be required, and I do not have a representation agreement with you.

* If the answers to your question confirm that you have a valid issue or worthwhile claim, your next step should almost always be to establish a dialog with a lawyer who can provide specific advice to you. Contact a lawyer in your county or township.

* Another reason for contacting a lawyer is that it is often impossible to give a good answer in the Internet Q&A format without having more information. The unique circumstances of your situation and things that you may not have thought to mention in your question may completely change the answer. If you want to be sure that you have a complete answer to your question and an understanding of what that answer means, establish a connection with a lawyer who practices in the area of your concern.

Get a newspaper of general circulation in the county/state where the estate is probated. For example, in Philadelphia, it might be the Inquirer; in Pittsburgh, it might be the Post-Gazette. If you are in a smaller county, it might be something else. Go to the section of the paper containing legal notices. It might be near the classifieds. Nobody ever notices them so that is why you have not seen them. In the legal notices section you will find many notices for probate. Pick one that is by a lawyer and copy that format. Run it for 4 consecutive weeks - some papers may not put it in the Sunday paper so talk to the newspaper advertising department that handles this and ask them.
