Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Pennsylvania
If funds from the sale of a property of a deceased relative are to be dispursed to surviving relatives how long should that process take?
1 Answer from Attorneys
Did the decedent reside in Pennsylvania? If not, then you would have to consult with an attorney in that state as other states may have different laws. In Pennsylvania, any distributions before the account is confirmed by the court are made at the personal representative's peril.
You also do not provide enough information. What other assets are there? Is there enough money in the estate to cover all the expenses? What about taxes? Have the taxing authorities given their approval that any taxes owed have been paid? If not, then the personal representative needs to hold back enough funds to cover any of these tax liabilities.
Has the final account and audit been done by the court? If so, when was that?
I would need the answers to these questions in order to provide you with better advice.
