home ownership after spouse dies

Imoved into my the home my husband owned with his ex wife. She signed away her rights to the home in exchange for cash pay out which was completed last year. The home has been paid off, but the deed still the ex wife's name on it. My name is not on the deed. My husband believes that is he dies, I will automatically own the house because I am married to him. I believe that we may need to add my name to the deed legally. Will you please advise.

Re: home ownership after spouse dies

You need her name off of the deed. Even if she signed away her rights to the home, her name on the deed could cause expensive problems and litigation for you in the future. Further, the document in which she signed away her rights to the home should be reviewed to determine your exact rights. Please contact me if you wish to discuss this further.
