Is there a question in there somewhere?

You give no facts really. Who died? When? Was an estate probated? Or was this some very creative person who applied to the state treasurer's office to claim missing inherited funds? If the latter, what happened? How do you know someone used your identity? Was there some kind of negligence involved? What kind of evidence did this person use to falsify your identity?

What are these funds? When was the money supposedly doled out? Last week? Last year? Longer? Do you know the real identity of the person who pretended to be you? Where are they if so?

I could go on and on. I have a million questions here. You need to see a lawyer. A litigation lawyer. Possibly a probate litigation attorney depending on how the money was acquired; maybe a general civil litigation attorney. They need to review all the facts here to know what is and is not possible.

I don't know if anything can be done to get your inheritance back. Obviously if you know the identity of the perpetrator you can bring a civil lawsuit and possibly criminal charges. However, if they spent the money, unless they have assets you are not going to see it. If a government entity handed out the money and you can show some sort of wrongdoing, maybe you can have a claim against the state treasurer. But the time for bringing a claim against the government is very short.
