How long does it normally take to settle an estate when the deseased had a valid will and no one is contesting it?

Approximately 1 year. The reason is that the IRS and PA tax authorities have to approve to the extent any tax returns need filed. Also, you have to give notice of the death in the newspaper and provide a set period for any claimants to come forth. Does the estate have an attorney? It also may depend on what assets are in the estate. Is there land? IRAs? Or just personal property? All of these things may affect the estate administration. My advice would be to have an attorney assist you if you do not know what you are doing.
