I don't know. Does your mother have a will? Who is the personal representative? Are there any other beneficiaries? Has her estate been probated? Are these cd's non-probate assets such that the proceeds were payable to you? If so, then the answer is probably yes. In such case, the bank may just need the death certificate. If these funds have to go to your mother's estate, then a personal representative will need appointed.

My advice would be to hire a probate attorney in the county/state in which your mother resided prior to her death. You should take the attorney a copy of the will and a list of any other assets and pay the attorney to review for you.

If the cds are non-probate assets then you will need to talk with the bank about cashing in the funds when the cd matures.
