Legal Question in Wills and Trusts in Pennsylvania
Questions regarding a failure to pay inheritance tax hearing . I live in Pennsylvania. My grandfather passed away back in 2013, and we did file an inheritance tax return, however we need to make a payment arrangement. I received a citation for a failure to pay hearing from the county courthouse. I did speak to the attorney for the department of revenue, and we both agreed on a payment arrangement. How do I find out since the issue has been resolved if I must still show up to the court. I have very bad anxiety condition and social anxiety, I get full blown panic attacks when I am in a stressful situation. Note: I am the co executor. The actual executor did not receive a notice.

Call the attorney for the department of revenue. If you agreed on a payment arrangement it must be in writing. See if he can file something and cancel the hearing or advise the court that this has been taken care of. Failing that, the actual executor surely has to be aware of arrangements, no? Not sure why the executor failed to pay the tax or why he/she was allowed to close the estate. Failing that, is there an attorney for the estate? If there is, maybe the probate attorney will handle it. If there isn't one, then you would not be in t his position because a competent probate attorney would have ensured that the taxes were paid before the estate was closed. If you did not get an attorney, then you should at least consult with a probate attorney and pay the attorney to review the file and make sure there are no other time-bombs waiting to explode and see how best to get this over and done with.
