How soon after someone dies is the will to be read?

If you are talking about a meeting where the will is read to the beneficiaries that seldom happens in real life. Reading a will is something done in movies and TV.

Assuming there is a will it will name an executor who is responsible for seeing that the directions of the will are carried out. To do this the executor files the will with the Registrar of Wills and ask for letter testamentary. Its these letters that allow the executor to take control of the decedent's property and open the estate so the decedent's bills can be paid and the estate can be distributed to the beneficiaries.
