can the insurance company stop your payments if an fce shows that you can work, but cannot perform your pre-injury job, and your employer does not have a position for you that meets your permanent restrictions?

The workers' compensation laws have changed quite a bit in the past ten years. We haven't run into the 50% AMA ratings much because it is rare now that any claim lasts 500 weeks so I don't think that is involved in your question.
I think the rule is still the same that disability continues until you return to your pre-injury wages at whatever job the employer has for you so I think the answer should be no.
However, I've seen situations where the employer will get a doctor to testify that you can do some job that the employer does have and you have to get your own doctor to say why you can't do that job in order to stay on comp.
