Legal Question in Workers Comp in Pennsylvania
Worker's Compensation- Dr. is Brother In-Law
My fiance was injured on the job and filed a worker's comp claim, the Dr. treating her is her brother in law. Is this a problem?

Re: Worker's Compensation- Dr. is Brother In-Law
It's not a problem as far as getting good treatment for her injury. It would be better if she was treated by a completely independent doctor for the following reasons: 1)if the insurer finds out and questions the bill it may make it more difficult for the relative to get paid if a URO is performed, and 2) if there is eventual litigation the relative's independence certainly will be an issue. If your fiance was my client I would suggest she use another doctor, with the relative perhaps keeping an eye on her treatment in a consultive capacity. Perhaps the relative can refer her to another doc he knows. Good luck!!
