Legal Question in Employment Law in Philippines

When I applied for a company 6 months ago, they said that I was entitled to a " signing bonus". I was able to receive half of the said bonus after 2 months. After 6 months of working for them, they terminated my contact, in short I was not regularized. Now they informed me that they will deduct from my last pay check half of the signing bonus! I was wondering if that is even legal? I did not resign, they terminated my contract. First of all. its a "signing bonus", i know it could be given in lump some but there where conditions before we could even receive half of it. And is it even legal for them to charge us for a "SIGNING BONUS". By the way, i was not given the other half because apparently the rule was the last half could be released if I was regularized. thanks

Try to review the employment contract that you signed. If it says that they can ask for the reimbursement of the signing bonus in the event you are terminated then they can ask for the said amount. In its absence you cannot be compelled to return it.
